This Basement Renovation Turned Out Better Than Expected! (with a Full Kitchen)

This basement renovation video featured on Home Channel TV showcases a stunning transformation by KLM Remodeling. The short tour highlights how a once-closed-off space became a bright, functional, and luxurious lower-level living area. If you're dreaming of finishing your basement or adding usable square footage to your home, this project is packed with ideas worth stealing.

The basement is an "English basement," meaning it has normal-sized windows that allow plenty of natural daylight—a huge plus for avoiding that dark, cave-like feel many basements suffer from.

Opening Up the Space

Removing a solid wall near the staircase opened up the entire area, making the descent into the basement feel brighter and more inviting. No more dim, enclosed entry—just a welcoming flow from upstairs.

The Star of the Show: A Full-Size Kitchen

This isn't a basic kitchenette—it's a legitimate full kitchen with everything you'd expect upstairs:

  • Custom backsplash

  • Farmhouse sink

  • Dishwasher

  • Microwave

  • Induction range

  • Counter-depth French door refrigerator (stainless steel, of course)

  • LED under-cabinet lighting for ambiance and functionality

Imagine hosting parties or having an in-law suite with this setup!

The Ultimate Cozy Spot: Custom Restaurant-Style Booth

Our favorite feature has to be the custom-built, fully upholstered restaurant-style booth. It includes a barrel vault ceiling, built-in storage cabinets behind the seats, and even a dimmer switch for mood lighting. It's perfect for family dinners, game nights, or just hanging out—pure genius for maximizing seating in a fun, space-efficient way.

Luxe Bathroom and Family Room

The tour also reveals a full luxury bathroom with a poured pan shower base, quartz countertops, and large porcelain tiles (12x24). The family room centers around a massive TV wall, ideal for movie nights or watching the game.

Flooring That Works for Real Life

Throughout the basement, they installed Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring. It's 100% waterproof, has built-in foam backing for sound dampening and warmth, and doesn't feel cold underfoot like traditional tile or concrete. Perfect for a high-traffic family space!
