Home Tour Vlog 202 - Home Channel TV recently toured a beautifully designed custom modern farmhouse ranch home built by US Shelter Homes in Wisconsin. This open-concept custom ranch features soaring vaulted ceilings with a long wood beam that spans the great room and kitchen, a dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace with vertical wood paneling, a spacious gourmet kitchen with a contrasting island, four bedrooms, two full baths, and a full basement. The house was empty when we filmed, so we virtually staged several of the main rooms to help you see the true scale and how the spaces could actually live.

First Impressions: Country Craftsman Meets Modern Farmhouse
US Shelter Homes built this home for a client on their lot in Wisconsin. Landscaping was still being finished when we arrived, so a few exterior shots include added greenery to give you a better sense of the finished look.
Step through the foyer and the layout immediately feels generous. To the right is a formal dining room large enough for a big table — we staged that space so you can picture holiday dinners and everyday meals. Straight ahead, the home opens into the heart of the design: a soaring great room that flows directly into the kitchen under one continuous vaulted ceiling.
The Great Room That Steals the Show
This is the room people will remember.
A wood beam runs the length of the vaulted ceiling, tying the living area and kitchen together. Opposite the seating zone is a floor-to-ceiling fireplace wrapped in vertical wood panels. It reads tall, architectural, and warm at the same time — classic modern farmhouse without feeling overdone.
Because the house was empty, we used virtual staging in this space so you can judge furniture scale, conversation groupings, and how a large sofa or sectional would sit against that fireplace wall. The volume is real. The beam and the fireplace give the room character even before a single piece of furniture is in place.
Gourmet Kitchen, Contrasting Island, and a Huge Pantry
The kitchen is built for both daily cooking and entertaining.
Kitchen Highlights from the tour:
A large center island finished in a contrasting color
Farmhouse-style sink
Quartz countertops
Stainless steel appliances
An unusually large pantry (the kind of “warehouse” storage most ranch kitchens wish they had)
Right next to the kitchen is a prep/mudroom-style space that keeps the main work zone cleaner and more functional. Open sightlines from the island back into the great room mean the cook is never cut off from the rest of the house.
We staged the kitchen and adjacent dining area so you can see how an island seating arrangement and a dining table would actually fit — something that’s hard to judge in an empty room.
Owner’s Suite and the Split Bedroom Layout
The home has four bedrooms and two full bathrooms.
The owner’s suite sits on its own side of the house. The bedroom was empty at filming, so we virtually furnished it to show bed placement and circulation. The owner’s bath is a good size and includes a walk-in shower with 12x24 tile that runs to the ceiling, plus a tiled seat and a poured tiled base.
On the opposite side of the home are three additional bedrooms and the second full bath. One of those bedrooms was staged as a possible home office — a flexible use that makes sense in a four-bedroom ranch.
A full basement sits below, giving future owners room to finish extra living space, a rec room, or guest quarters when they’re ready.
Why Virtual Staging Helped This Tour
Empty custom homes can be tough to understanding scale. Staging the dining room, great room, kitchen, owner’s suite, and one secondary bedroom made the proportions easier to read: how large a table the dining room can take, how the island functions as a gathering spot, and how the owner’s suite actually feels when a bed and nightstands are in place.
The architecture does the heavy lifting. The beam, the fireplace, the vault, and the kitchen layout are already strong. Staging just helps you imagine living there.
